A new computer scam has been reported to the Upper Allen Police Department. The scam involves a pop up which appears while using Apple products. In the reported theft the pop ups appeared on an Ipad and an IPhone. The pop up is a white box which uses the Apple logo and appears to be from the company. Once displayed the device is frozen and all other applications are inaccessible. The pop up requests payment in the amount of $30 and provides an 866 number to call with your credit card information. If payment is made the amount goes to an entity which has no affiliation with Apple. Once the payment is made the device is unlocked and returns to normal function.

If you receive a similar type of pop up while using an Apple product do not call the phone number provided. Instead contact Apple directly at 1-800-275-2273.
