Photo ID’s Now Available for 10 Year Olds

Photo identity cards issued by PennDOT are now available to children as young as 10. The previous minimum age was 16 however, a new law that took effect November 29, 2009 changed the minimum age to 10.

This is an excellent way for parents to have an official method of identification for their children. It also provides a method for police, anywhere in the United States, who have access to PennDOT to access a photograph of a child who may be reported missing. It would be encouraged that all parents update their child’s ID periodically.

To obtain a photo ID card, an individual must complete Form DL-54A, “Application for Initial Photo Identification Card.” Requirements and instructions are listed on this form.
