Upper Allen Police Investigate Attempted Break-In

In the early morning hours of January 28, 2016 Upper Allen Police responded to the 1100 block of Nanroc Drive for the report of a male suspect, dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, attempting to open the rear sliding glass door of a residence. The suspect was unsuccessful in gaining entry into the residence and fled prior to police arrival. Additionally, Lower Allen Police responded to a similar call with the same suspect description, just prior to the incident in Upper Allen Township.

Police remind residents that it is imperative that you keep your homes locked whether you are home or not. Report suspicious persons or incidents immediately to police. If you witness an incident or suspicious activity and it is possible to safely call 911 before turning on lights or otherwise causing a suspect to flee, please do so. Obviously, personal safety is most important.

Snow Storm Contributes to Traffic Crash

On January 22, 2016 at 5:26 PM Shearer lost control of his Ford Bronco during the snow storm and the vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side along the side of Route 15 South in the area of Winding Hill Road. Shearer suffered a minor injury and was transported to the hospital for treatment. There was a juvenile passenger in the vehicle as well but he was not injured. The Upper Allen Township Police were assisted by Dillsburg EMS.

Upper Allen Township Declares a Snow Emergency

Due to the anticipated winter weather, a Snow Emergency has been declared in Upper Allen Township effective today, January 22nd at 7:00 PM and shall remain in effect until Sunday, January 24th at noon.

The Upper Allen Township Police would like to remind residents that it is unlawful to park or permit to be parked, any vehicle, on any street or alley, which is part of the Township maintained street system, upon the commencement of the snow emergency until the snow has been plowed.

Owners of vehicles that remain on the the Township streets during the snow emergency are subject to fine and the vehicles are subject to tow. Removing vehicles will expedite the snow removal process and reduce the risk of vehicles being damaged by snow removal equipment.

Police Warn Residents of IRS and US Treasury Scams

Now that tax season is here, there have been an increase in reported IRS and US Treasury scams telephone calls. Most have received an automated telephone call from someone claiming to be an agent of the government regarding a lawsuit over unpaid taxes. The scammer requests a return telephone call. Residents are warned not to provide any personal information over the the telephone.

The IRS will never:

1) call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill;
2) demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe;
3) require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card;
4) ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone;
5) threaten to involve local police or other law enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.

If you receive one of these calls and have the originating number or a call back number, the IRS requests you report it to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1-800-366-4484.

Dog Reported Lost in the Winding Hills Development

On January 17, 2016 an Upper Allen resident in the 1500 block of Zestar Street in the Winding Hills neighborhood notifed police that their dog ran away from their residence at approximately 12:15 AM. The dog is an 8 year old white/yellow Lab wearing an orange collar and is named Jack. Jack is licensed and well taken care of and was last seen wearing a black protective mask on his face.
