Megan’s Law

At the Upper Allen Police Department, the safety of our residents is our top priority. We encourage everyone in Mechanicsburg and Cumberland County to be aware of sexually violent predators who may live or work in our community.

Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law, found in 42 Pa.C.S. § 9791 et seq., is a vital tool designed to provide public access to information about registered sex offenders. The Pennsylvania State Police maintains a comprehensive website that serves this purpose, offering timely information on individuals who reside, attend school, or are employed/carry on a vocation within the Commonwealth.

This law, specifically 42 Pa.C.S. § 9799.1, mandates the State Police to create and maintain a registry of persons who have been convicted of, pleaded guilty to, or adjudicated delinquent of certain sex offenses in Pennsylvania or another jurisdiction. The Pennsylvania State Police is legally required to make specific information about these registered sex offenders publicly accessible through their Internet website, as outlined in 42 Pa.C.S. § 9798.1.

Important Considerations for Your Safety:

  • Public Safety Focus: The information provided on the Megan’s Law website is intended solely for public protection. It is crucial to understand that misuse of this information, such as for harassment, intimidation, or to commit a criminal offense, is strictly prohibited and can lead to serious legal consequences.
  • Verification: While the website is regularly updated, it’s important to note that information may change. Positive identification of any individual on the registry should ideally be confirmed by comparing fingerprints with those taken at the time of arrest or incarceration.
  • No Predictive Guarantees: The presence of an individual on the registry does not predict future behavior. It provides information to empower the public to take appropriate precautions.
  • Reporting Concerns: If you believe any information on the Megan’s Law website is outdated or incorrect, or if you have an emergency, crime, or incident to report, please contact your nearest police agency or dial 911 immediately. For non-emergencies related to the PSP Megan’s Law website, you can contact them directly via their toll-free number.
