Afternoon Crash Results in Injuries to Mechanicsburg Woman and Child

On Saturday, June 1, 2024, Upper Allen Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on E. Lisburn Rd at McCormick Rd, just beyond the railroad bridge. An investigation revealed that a white Subaru Ascent was being driven westbound on E. Lisburn Rd and the driver failed to negotiate the right curve in the roadway. The vehicle proceeded into the oncoming travel lane and struck a white Dodge Ram which was heading eastbound on E. Lisburn Rd. Both vehicles required towing from the crash site.

The operator and occupant of the striking vehicle were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Upper Allen Police were assisted at the scene by Upper Allen Fire Police and Penn State Health Life Lion EMS. The roadway was shut down for approximately one hour.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 4:59 PM, an Upper Allen Police Officer encountered Kelly Sloan in the parking lot of a local business in the 2100 block of South Market Street. Prior to the encounter, Sloan was observed operating a vehicle on South Market Street.

During the encounter, Sloan was found to be under the influence of alcohol to a degree that rendered her incapable of safely operating a vehicle. Sloan was arrested and transported to the Cumberland County Prison for processing. A preliminary hearing will be held at a later date.

Black Bear Spotted Near East Winding Hill Road

The Upper Allen Township Police have received multiple reports of bear sightings in the area of East Winding Hill Road and Winding Hill Drive. There have been no reports of the bear being hostile or aggressive at this time. Residents are asked to move trash containers and bird feeders inside, so as not to attract the bears. If the bears are seen, do not approach the bears or attempt to confine them in any way.

Upper Allen Police have notified the State Game Commission of the bear sightings. Residents are asked to call Upper Allen Police via 9-1-1 or 717-238-9676 regarding any concerns about public safety.

Upper Allen Police Investigate Attempted Break-In

On Friday, May 17, 2024, at about 5:58 PM, Upper Allen Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Melbourne Lane for a report of a non-active burglary. An investigation at the scene determined that sometime between about 12:30 PM and 5:00 PM someone attempted to gain access to a residence in the neighborhood via a sliding glass backdoor.
