Traffic Crashes Annual Report

The Upper Allen Police Department investigated 324 crashes in 2024, an increase from 278 in 2023. Of those, 96 were reportable crashes, meaning they involved injury or death, or vehicle damage requiring towing. Reportable crashes resulted in 2 fatalities and 60 injuries. The remaining 228 crashes were classified as non-reportable.

The majority of the crashes occurred on state-maintained roadways, specifically South Market Street and US Route 15.

The highest number of crashes occurred on Wednesday, followed by Friday. The most common time frame for crashes was between 3 pm and 6 pm, followed by 9 am to 12 pm.

The primary cause of crashes is driver behavior, with “Careless Driving” and “Roadways Laned for Traffic” being the most frequent contributing factors.

Increased police visibility on primary roadways during peak crash times may have a deterrent effect, but ultimately, driver attentiveness is crucial. Since driver actions are the main cause of crashes, focusing on encouraging behaviors like reduced speeds, eliminating distractions such as mobile phone use, and maintaining safe following distances should be prioritized to decrease crash occurrences.
