Upper Allen Police Participate in Operation Safe Stop

On October 21, 2015 the Upper Allen Police participated in Operation Safe Stop. Operation Safe Stop is a proactive approach to educate the motoring public that passing a stopped school bus, when children are loading or unloading, is both dangerous and illegal. Law enforcement agencies, school transportation providers, pupil transportation associations, and PennDOT have combined their efforts to raise public awareness about the potential consequences and reduce the occurrence of illegal school bus passes. Operation Safe Stop is also designed to identify trouble spots, routes or stops with a high frequency of violations. Police are not required to observe the violation. Bus drivers can document information about the violating vehicle and provide that information to the Police within 48 hours. Illegally passing a school bus with red lights activated and the stop bar extended can result in a $250 fine and a 60 day license suspension.
