The juvenile black bear that had been roaming the areas near the Meadowview housing development, the Mechanicsburg Middle School and Gettysburg Pike near East Winding Hill RD has been captured. At approximately 5:00 PM today, the bear was captured in a joint effort between the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Upper Allen Township Police in the first block of Gettysburg Pike, adjacent to the Mennonite Cemetery. The bear was unharmed during it’s capture.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission will be taking the bear to an area where it will have a sufficient habitat and space to roam. The Game Commission’s Regional Office requests that anyone with additional questions concerning the bear, please contact them at 814-643-1831.
