Police Warn Residents to Beware of IRS Telephone Scam

November 28, 2014

The Upper Allen Township Police has received reports from several township residents about an IRS telephone scam. The residents received an automated telephone call from someone that is claiming to be an agent of the IRS stating that they are subject to a law suit over unpaid taxes and requests a return telephone call. When the call is returned a male with foreign accent requests personal information. Residents are warned not to provide any personal information over the the telephone.

Note that the IRS will never:
1) call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill;
2) demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe;
3) require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card;
4) ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone; or
5) threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.

If you receive one of these calls and have the originating number or a call back number, the IRS requests you report it to the IRS Internal Inspection at 800-366-4484.

Raptor ATV

On Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2014, a garage in the 1700 block of Fisher Road was forcibly entered. The actors broke into several vehicles inside the garage. An Alpine dash monitor was stolen from one of the vehicles. They removed two dirt bikes which were abandoned at the end of the driveway, presumably because they did not start. One actor fled the scene on an ATV stolen from the same garage. The ATV is a 2001 Yamaha Raptor 660 ATV, black & white on color, VIN JY4AM01371A002856, similar to the one pictured above. The Raptor is equipped with a White Brothers E Series pipe and is louder than normal. Police were able to establish that the thief rode the ATV to Williams Grove Road and headed west toward W. Lisburn Road. The ATV was last heard in the area of Monroe Acres just off Williams Grove Road at about 3:00-3:30 AM.

Police ask any residents that heard a loud ATV early Thanksgiving morning, particularly those in the area of the following streets, to please call police with any information:
