Snowfall Regulation Reminder

A significant winter storm is forecasted for the area for Thursday 02/13. The recent snowfalls accompanied by abnormally cold weather has created extra difficulties everywhere. Residents are reminded of the following Township Ordinances:

  • Every owner and occupant of any property with frontage alongside any street within Upper Allen Township must remove all snow, slush, and ice along the full width of the sidewalks and across driveways within 24 hours after snow/ice stopped falling [Ord. §205-2]
  • ANY vehicles (including trailers) must be removed from ALL Township-maintained streets and alleys within two hours after the start of continuous snowfall and until the snow has been completely plowed for the full width of the roadway [Ord. §233-16]
  • Upper Allen Township Police are authorized to have any vehicles towed that are in violation of Ordinance §233-16 listed above
  • The owner of any vehicle that is towed in violation of the Ordinance will be responsible for towing and storage fees
  • The extreme weather creates extra difficulties for everyone involved, including Public Safety Personnel. Your cooperation is appreciated as we all look forward to milder conditions.

On February 02, 2014 at about 12:24 AM, Upper Allen Police responded to a crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of South Market Street at Gettysburg Pike. Creamer entered the intersection from Gettysburg Pike when his vehicle was struck in the intersection by a juvenile operator. Both drivers were transported to Harrisburg Hospital for minor injuries. Upper Allen Police were assisted at the scene by the Upper Allen Fire Department, West Shore EMS, and Lower Allen EMS. The crash is under investigation.

Single Vehicle Crash Shuts Down Route 15

On January 27, 2014 at 11:40 PM, Upper Allen Police responded to a single vehicle crash into the concrete median on Route 15 South near Cumberland Parkway. Quinchia was the driver and sole occupant of the car and was transported to Hershey Medical Center for treatment. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Route 15 was shut down for an extended period of time due to the investigation, cleanup and repair of the median. Upper Allen Police were assisted on scene by West Shore EMS, Upper Allen Fire Department and PennDOT.

Attempted Burglaries to Homes Under Construction

During the month of January 2014, the Upper Allen Police Department has received two (2) reports of attempted burglaries to homes under construction in the Braeburn Estates neighborhood. In each case, damage was done to the rear windows of homes in an attempt to gain entry.

Upper Allen Police remind residents to promptly report any suspicious activity by dialing 911 any time during the day or night.

Child Dies After Being Struck by a Vehicle in a Residential Driveway

On January 23, 2014 at approximately 4:00 PM Upper Allen Police responded to a residence in the 1000 Block of South Market Street for the report of a child struck by a vehicle. The accident occurred in the private driveway area of a residence and the vehicle involved was operated by the homeowner. The child was flown by Life Lion to Hershey Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Police are continuing to investigate the incident but do not believe it to be criminal in nature. Upper Allen Police were assisted at the scene by Mechanicsburg Borough Police, West Shore EMS and Upper Allen Fire Department.
