Pedestrian Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle

On Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at approximately 5:00 PM, Upper Allen Police responded to the report of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Kim Acres Drive and South Market Street. Richard Edgar, operating a blue 2006 Dodge Ram, was stopped on Kim Acres Drive facing a steady red signal at South Market Street. Edgar, intending to turn right on red, proceeded from his stopped position and struck Dwayne Stutzman, a pedestrian walking south on South Market Street. Stutzman suffered only minor injuries and declined EMS treatment.

Second Bear Cub Captured

With the assistance of the PA Game Commission the 2nd bear cub that was wandering in the Township was humanely captured. Due to diligent observations from Township residents the PA Game Commission was able to place a baited humane trap in the likely location the bear was roaming. Sometime overnight the bear crawled into the trap and was successfully removed from the Township unharmed.

First of Two Black Bears Captured and Relocated

Since the morning of May 11, 2012 Upper Allen Police have received numerous reports of two black bears in the area. The bears have been spotted in many neighborhoods along Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg. The bears are about a year and a half in age and weigh approximately 100 pounds. Neither bear has shown any sign of hostility. At approximately 8:00 AM today, police were able to confine the bears to a cemetery near the intersection of Gettysburg Pike and E. Winding Hill Road. The PA Game Commission was notified and responded to assist. One of the two bears was tranquilized and transported from the scene by the Game Commission. The bear was not injured and is to be relocated to a more suitable environment.

Residents are encouraged to report any bear sightings to the Upper Allen Police to facilitate the safe capture and relocation of the other bear. Residents are reminded to not approach or attempt to confine a bear. Please promptly contact the Upper Allen Police Department at 717-795-2445 with any additional information.

One Injured in Three Vehicle Crash on Route 15

On May 13, 2012 Upper Allen Police responded on US Route 15 North. Tukis, operating a 2001 Lexus, was stopped in traffic on the left lane of US Route 15 north at mile post 39.1. Clay, operating a 2005 Mazda, was slowing to stop behind Tukis. A 17 year old female operating a 2001 Jeep was not able to stop in time and struck the rear of Clay’s vehicle. The impact pushed Clay’s vehicle into the side of Tukis’s vehicle. The juvenile complained of minor injuries but declined EMS treatment on scene.

Traffic Crash on Gettysburg Pike

On May 11, 2012 at 1:00 PM, Upper Allen Police were dispatched to a two vehicle crash in the 500 block of Gettysburg Pike. Peiffer was traveling South on Gettysburg Pike while Ross was traveling North. Peiffer turned left into a parking lot entrance and cut across Ross’s lane of travel. Ross was not able to avoid Peiffer’s vehicle and struck the rear passenger side. Minor to moderate damage was sustained to each vehicle. EMS responded to the scene but did not provide transport services to anyone involved.
